GET THE SHOES: runningshoes.com/the-north-face-ultra-cardiac-tnf-black-dayglo-yellow
I was excited to get my feet back into a North Face shoe after reviewing and digging the Hyper Track Guide last year. Let me introduce you to the North Face Ultra Cardiac – a fun, grippy, neutral door-to-trail beast. There are a few things I really like about this shoe, but a few things that bugged me.
First, the grip on these guys is stellar. It’s no deep mud master, but for techy trails, rooted singletrack and the like, the Vibram outsole really gives this thing some crazy awesome grip. I felt very secure and stable on the more technical rocky descents and the responsive midsole and stiffer shoe contributed to that sensation.
However, at 11oz, this shoe is heavy. And stiff. The shoe doesn’t really allow for much foot flexion with that hardened midsole and thicker outsole. The upper too is comprised of multi-layer materials that just bring the weight up and the flexibility down. A bit of a bummer.
But I’m curious what you think of the Ultra Cardiac? Let me know in the comments below!
